How to block TikTok on iPhone

Updated August 2026 · 5 min read

The short answer: match the tool to how gone you want it. A daily cap: Screen Time App Limits or an enforcement app. Evenings only: Downtime. Gone entirely: delete the app and block reinstalls under Content & Privacy Restrictions. Each method below, with its escape hatches labeled — because the escape hatch is usually why the last attempt failed.

Level 1: A daily cap (keep TikTok, shrink it)

Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit → TikTok, set your minutes. Escape hatch: the "Ignore Limit" button, one tap, no questions. If you've met that button before, use enforcement instead: Capped shields TikTok at the cap with no ignore option — extra time costs escalating ads or, in Accountability mode, a friend's approval. Start the cap 25% under your current daily average, not at a fantasy number.

Level 2: Scheduled blocks (TikTok has hours now)

Settings → Screen Time → Downtime — set a schedule (say 9pm–8am) and turn on "Block at Downtime." Only apps you've Always Allowed work during those hours. Good for reclaiming evenings; does nothing about the 45-minute lunch scroll.

Level 3: Delete it (and mean it)

  1. Hold the TikTok icon → Remove App → Delete App.
  2. Now close the back door: Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → turn on → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing Apps → Don't Allow. The App Store icon disappears entirely.
  3. Weaponize the passcode: have someone you trust set the Screen Time passcode so you can't just undo step 2. (Sound familiar? That's an accountability partner, implemented with 2010s technology.)

Remember the browser: tiktok.com works in Safari. Add it under App Limits → Websites, or you'll rediscover it around day three.

Which level is right?

You wantUseWeak spot
Less TikTokCap with enforcementNone you can tap
No night TikTokDowntime + blockDaytime unlimited
No TikTokDelete + install block + friend's passcodeSafari, borrowed phones

Most people who "quit TikTok" four times do better with a real cap than a fifth deletion — total bans invite total relapses, while a cap you actually keep compounds into weeks of reclaimed time a year.

Frequently asked

How do I block TikTok completely on iPhone?

Delete the app, then stop reinstalls: Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing Apps → Don't Allow. Have someone else set the Screen Time passcode, or the block is only as strong as your memory of the code.

Can I block just TikTok but keep other apps?

Yes — a per-app limit does that. Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit → TikTok, or use an enforcement app like Capped to cap TikTok alone with consequences for extra time.

Does deleting TikTok delete my account?

No. Deleting the app leaves your account, likes, and drafts on TikTok's servers. Reinstall and log in and it's all waiting for you — which is exactly why deletes without a reinstall block rarely stick.

Put a cap on your apps

Capped sets daily limits enforced through Apple's Screen Time — and when the cap hits, extra minutes cost an ad, or a friend's permission. When willpower fails, your friends decide.
